Rep. Jack Rader of Monroe County has been appointed as the Republican chair of the newly established Environmental and Natural Resources Protection Committee in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2025-26 legislative session.

Rader expressed his enthusiasm for this new role, stating, "I look forward to taking on this added responsibility and am grateful to our House Republican Caucus leaders for naming me to this important position." He emphasized his commitment to working with colleagues on legislation aimed at preserving and protecting Pennsylvania's environment.

The committee will oversee environmental laws managed by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Its responsibilities include addressing issues related to clean air, land and water, waste disposal, recycling, among others.

Standing committees play a crucial role in reviewing bills assigned to them. They may hold hearings, consider amendments, and report bills to the full House for voting.

Rader officially began his duties after taking the oath of office on January 7th along with other House members.
