In an effort to educate the public about identity theft, Representative Jack Rader is collaborating with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General to host a seminar. The event aims to provide residents with information on how to safeguard their personal data against increasingly sophisticated scams.

Rader emphasized the growing concern around identity theft, stating, “Identity theft continues to be one of the fastest growing crimes in the country and scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to trick us into providing our personal information.” He highlighted that the seminar is particularly beneficial for older residents who are often targeted by such schemes.

The seminar is scheduled for Thursday, June 13, at 6 p.m., and will be held at the Tunkhannock Township Municipal Building in Long Pond. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. David Shallcross, director of the senior protection unit with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, will lead the session. Topics will include strategies for protecting personal information online and offline, recognizing scams designed to steal identities, and steps to take if victimized by identity theft.

Interested individuals must make reservations to attend. Reservations can be made online or by contacting one of Rader’s district offices at 570-643-7683 (Blakeslee) or 570-620-4341 (Effort).
