Freeport Area School District issued the following announcement.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic swept the nation, theatrical groups in schools and communities have suffered from lost opportunities to perform. The students of Freeport Area High School have developed a creative solution and a way for the show to go on; albeit in a much different format. The school is producing a pay-per-view screening of the holiday classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. The movie will be available for rent online and will be streamed during the weekend of December 11th through the 13th.
Adapting the staged version of the movie for film again is a process; one that the students have enjoyed immensely. “It has been interesting to experience putting on a show from behind a camera as opposed to live on stage,” said Jessica Kibler, Student Director. “Learning to act for a camera certainly is different than how one would act on stage.” This challenge has proven to be rewarding for cast and crew alike and has opened up opportunities for growth.
Filming locations include several houses in Freeport, particularly on 4th Street, as well as other community properties, including the Freeport United Methodist Church and the Charlton Law Offices in Sarver. Students in the Freeport High School television production program, BeeTV, have taken on the challenge of editing and producing the film.
