Oct. 30, 2020

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University continues to look good in green. The Princeton Review named SRU to its "Guide to Green Colleges: 2021 Edition." SRU has appeared on the list each year since 2010 when the Princeton Review started annually recognizing the most environmentally responsible colleges in the country.

SRU is among 416 colleges selected for the 2021 guide, based on the Princeton Review editors' analysis of more than 25 survey data points and institutions' commitments to the environment and sustainability through policies, practices and programs. Survey topics ranged from academic offerings and campus initiatives to career preparation for "green" jobs.

By working with a panel of experts on higher education sustainability practices, the Princeton Review editors developed a "Green Rating" on a scale of 60-99 and schools with scores of 80 or higher made it into the guide. Of the 416 schools in the 2021 edition, 393 are in the U.S., 22 are in Canada and one is in Greece.

"We strongly recommend SRU to students who want to study and live at a green college," said Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's editor-in-chief. "Each and every one of the outstanding colleges in this edition of our guide offers both excellent academics and exemplary evidence of environmental commitment."

The "Green Ratings" covered three key factors, including:

Whether students have a quality of life on campus that is both healthy and sustainable.

How well a school is preparing students for employment in an increasingly green economy.

How environmentally responsible a school's policies are.
