EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY: ESUs’ College of Business Management Partners with Pennsylvania Trust for Portfolio Management Course This Fall

Business

East Stroudsburg University issued the following announcement.

In these times of economic uncertainty, East Stroudsburg University’s College of Business Management, in conjunction with ESU’s Student Activity Association, will be offering a new twist to its Portfolio Management course this fall. Typically, the course teaches students best practices in portfolio management, performance evaluation and investment management strategies. In the university’s updated version of the course, the instructors will be joined by Jonathan Heckscher, senior vice president, director of fixed income and chief investment officer at The Pennsylvania Trust Company, an award-winning wealth management firm in the Greater Philadelphia area. Heckscher has agreed to assist with teaching the course—whether that be virtually or in-person—in order to bring relevant, real-world experiences to the classroom.

Heckscher has more than 20 years of investment management and investment banking experience, both domestically and abroad. At Pennsylvania Trust, Heckscher oversees the Investment Policy Committee and investment department, and is the director of the fixed income team.

“This partnership is expected to elevate an already outstanding business class,” said Sylvester Williams, dean of the ESU’s college of business and management. “Every other week, Mr. Heckscher will educate students on portfolio analysis and valuation principles. At the end of the course, students will make small group presentations to Mr. Heckscher and peer professionals on his investment team.

Williams adds that students in this class will learn, firsthand, how to structure a portfolio and evaluate its performance. The course, which involves a student-managed portfolio component, will require class participants to secure Bloomberg Certification prior to enrollment. Students achieve Bloomberg Certification through an eight-hour self-directed e-learning course called Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC).

“Earning Bloomberg Certification is of particular importance to those seeking a degree in any business-related field. ESU students have the Bloomberg Terminal at their fingertips and should take full advantage of this opportunity to take their business acumen to the next level,” said Williams. “There are four core concepts that students will learn from their Bloomberg training: economic indicators, currencies, fixed income and equities.”

For more than 30 years, Pennsylvania Trust has offered investment management, financial planning, tax, trust, estate and philanthropic solutions to help individuals, families, nonprofits and other organizations preserve and grow their wealth.

As of May 1, 2020, Pennsylvania Trust officially became a part of Fiduciary Trust International, a global wealth manager. In the coming weeks, Pennsylvania Trust will transition its name and operate under the Fiduciary Trust International brand.
