Counties, school districts, hospitals, and other organizations in Pennsylvania could soon receive funding from the state under a bill passed by the Senate. The legislation, Senate Bill 160, was approved as budget negotiations for fiscal year 2025-26 continue. According to Sen. Rosemary Brown (R-40), the bill would provide funding at levels set in the final budget for fiscal year 2024-25.
If the House of Representatives also passes Senate Bill 160, nearly $47.6 billion could be distributed without raising taxes.
“This plan takes a sensible approach while budget negotiations are still ongoing,” said Brown. “It ensures vital funding flows to the people and organizations who need it most – from our schools to our hospitals – without burdening taxpayers.”
The passage of SB 160 is seen as an important step in this year’s budget process. Many line items in the proposed budget are not being disputed by lawmakers, allowing immediate funding for counties, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, social service providers, and other groups that rely on state support.
Brown stated that this measure prioritizes essential needs during ongoing discussions about the overall state budget.
