Rep. Jack Rader of Monroe County is organizing a shredding and cleanup event at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond on September 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free service is available exclusively for Monroe County residents.
For the first time, attendees will have the opportunity to replace illegible license plates. According to state law, PennDOT must replace these plates at no cost if deemed unreadable by law enforcement or a certified inspection mechanic. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will be present to inspect plates and complete necessary forms. Residents should bring their vehicle with the affected plate attached, along with an unexpired Pennsylvania driver’s license and current vehicle registration card.
“My staff and I are pleased we can offer this new service at this year’s event, along with the other services we’ve been providing over the years with the help of our partner organizations,” said Rader. “We will be there, rain or shine, and encourage residents to take advantage of the opportunity to safely dispose of things they no longer need or shred any of their sensitive paperwork.”
The event will occur in front of the raceway ticket office at 1234 Long Pond Road. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles while staff unloads items for disposal.
Purple Paper Eaters Document Destruction Services from Wilkes-Barre will handle on-site shredding with a limit of four copy-paper-sized boxes per vehicle.
Additional items accepted include up to four old tires per vehicle (no rims), unwanted or expired prescription drugs collected by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, faded flags collected by American Legion Post 413 Pocono Lake, prescription eyeglasses and hearing aids collected by the Lions Club, and gently used children’s books collected by Clymer Library.
