Rep. Jack Rader of Monroe County has been appointed to several committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2023-24 Legislative Session. He will serve on the Finance, Local Government, and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development committees. Additionally, Rader has been named Republican chairman of the Subcommittee on Boroughs under the House Local Government Committee.

“I am pleased to be returning as a member of each of these committees, where my business background and nearly 30 years of experience as a municipal leader can provide valuable insight as we consider the legislation before us,” said Rader. “In addition, because tourism drives Monroe County’s economy, serving on that committee can only benefit our region and its business community.”

The House Finance Committee is responsible for matters related to taxation, fiscal policy, investment of state funds, and regulations from the Department of Revenue. It also reviews legislation concerning the Pennsylvania Lottery and programs funded by it such as the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program.

The House Local Government Committee deals with legislation affecting over 2,500 county and municipal governments across Pennsylvania. This includes issues like local government purchases, real estate assessment policies, and pensions for municipal police officers.

The House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee focuses on travel promotion; initiatives involving scenic roadways; snowmobile trails; amusement parks; agritourism; hotel issues; recreational land use; among others.

Standing committees play a crucial role in legislative processes by reviewing bills assigned to them. They may hold hearings on proposed laws, consider amendments to pending bills, and report them back to the full House for voting.
