Rep. Jack Rader of Monroe County has been appointed to several key committees in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 2023-24 Legislative Session. He will serve on the Finance, Local Government, and Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development committees. Additionally, Rader has been named the Republican chairman of the Subcommittee on Boroughs under the House Local Government Committee.

“I am pleased to be returning as a member of each of these committees, where my business background and nearly 30 years of experience as a municipal leader can provide valuable insight as we consider the legislation before us,” said Rader. “In addition, because tourism drives Monroe County’s economy, serving on that committee can only benefit our region and its business community.”

The House Finance Committee is responsible for matters related to taxation, fiscal policy, investment management of state funds, and regulation by the Department of Revenue. It also reviews legislation concerning the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery and bills about programs funded by it such as Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program.

The House Local Government Committee evaluates legislation impacting over 2,500 county and municipal governments in Pennsylvania. This includes laws on local government purchases, real estate assessments, and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.

The House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee deals with legislation promoting travel and tourism; initiatives related to scenic roadways; snowmobile trails; amusement parks; fairs; agritourism; hotel issues; recreational use of land and water among others.

Standing committees are integral to legislative proceedings. All proposed bills are assigned to a committee for review where they may undergo hearings or amendments before being reported to the full House for voting.
